Its author is Abu Abd al-Rahman Ahmad ibn Shuayb al-Nasa'i (215-303 AH / 829-915 CE). Also known as 'al-Mujtaba', his Sunan stands out for its meticulous evaluation of narrators (jarh and tadil).
His work is considered one of the soundest Sunan collections in terms of chains after al-Bukhari and Muslim, and is among the six principal hadith books.
